Public Rights of Way

Responsibility for Public Rights of Way

The Parish Council is responsible for routine care and maintenance of the footpaths and bridleways which make up the public rights of way (PROW) within the Group Parish. In this task the Council is supported by Herefordshire Council and also by three voluntary PROW officers.

Each year, in May, these PROW officers provide a report to Council about the state of the PROWs under their control, highlighting problems and issues which Council can assist in resolving (sometimes because of scale passing up to Herefordshire PROW team).

The PROW officers do valuable work for the community and any resident or visitor noting problems on our paths or bridleways should get in touch with the relevant officer as the first point of contact for recording and elimination of the problem.

Public Rights of Way Officer Contacts

For 2023-24 the PROW officers are:

  • Bridleways within the Group Parishes
    Iain Cholerton (iain.cholerton@hotmail.co.uk)
  • Humber Parish footpaths
    Philip Brown (philipjbrown60@gmail.com)
  • Ford & Stoke Prior Parish footpaths
    Mike Hayward (mikehayward1962@gmail.com)

Parish Paths Partnership

The Council has also joined the Parish Paths Partnership (P3) and, with a small budget from Parish Council resources, our Parish Lengthsman helps to keep the paths clear and work with landowners to get broken stiles repaired.

The Lengthsman works with the Clerk and the Parish Footpaths Officers on the maintenance programme for rights-of-way.

Dave Campbell (DC Gardening Services from Leominster) has been appointed as the main Lengthsman contractor for the Parish Council. All issues and requests must be passed to the Parish Council rather than to Dave directly. To report an issue, click here.
