Many residents will be aware from articles in The Pump and in the minutes of a number of recent Council Meetings that a War Memorial has been constructed in the centre of Stoke Prior on the area known locally as “the roundabout”. Cllr. Fowler-Wright (currently the Council Chairman) has been primarily responsible for delivering this substantial project with the assistance of a group of dedicated volunteers (Cllr William Jackson, Iain Cholerton, Diane Thomas and Stephen Roberts).
The aim has always been to officially dedicate the completed memorial on 1st July 2022 which is the 116th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme and the June edition of The Pump contained an article by Stephen Roberts about the battle. All residents are invited to attend the dedication ceremony which will commence at 11.30am at the site on 1st July. Here is the order for service-

Herefordshire Council has agreed that the three roads meeting at the roundabout will be closed to traffic between 11.15am and 12.15 pm and that should give plenty of space for residents to attend safely. People from the wider group parish coming by car should use the temporary car park in a field opposite St. Luke’s and The Bury by kind permission of the Bemands. Please be parked well before 11.15am when the roads in the centre of Stoke Prior will be closed off. Here are the public notices for the road closures and also the plan showing where the roads will be closed-
